Sweden Becomes World’s First Cage‑Free Country for Egg laying Chickens!by June, 2025 Source: Project 1882 Regional data confirmed that all cages are now empty sparing confinement for 17,000,000 hens. Sweden's world shifted in terms of Animal Welfare. The surge is now on for other countries to do the same. Is it feasible? Yes, this is where Sweden let the people decide. Sweden, without a legal mandate, achieved an animal-welfare milestone: Sweden is now the first country in the world where egg-laying hens are no longer kept in cages—this achievement is absolutely ground-breaking. Persistence in advocacy, beginning in the early 2000's with public campaigns along with corporate and consumer pressure combined with purchasing demands has brought about historical change. Note: For now it is not a legal ban, and more of a voluntary commitment. There is an urge for the Swedish Gov. to convert this achievement into law ensuring permanent protection for hens with great wealth of potential and inspiration to create a movement across Europe. |
